Congrats to Serena Williams on being announced Sports Illustrated sportsperson of the year.
According to Sports Illustrated, “Sports Illustrated honors her dominance in 2015, when she won 53 of her 56 matches, three of the four Grand Slam events and built the most yawning ranking points gap between her and her closest competitor in tennis history. We honor her, too, for a career of excellence, her stranglehold on the game’s No. 1 ranking and her 21 Grand Slam titles, a total that has her on the brink of Steffi Graf’s Open Era Slam record, which Williams will likely eclipse by mid-summer.”
There has been backlash of their choices in making Williams sportsperson of the year. People can say what they want, but Williams put in work to earn this accolade. She is by far one of the hardest and most talented female African-American athlete in the world right now.
I don’t understand how people can discredit Williams for all of her achievements, but praise Caityln Jenner on receiving the “Woman of the Year” award, when she has done NOTHING to benefit woman in society.
