Flint Michigan Water Crisis

Two years ago, Governor Rick Synder of Michigan authorized to switch from using Lake Huron in Detroit (which they were originally paying for) to the Flint River water supply. The Flint River water supply is notoriously known for being toxic according to its residents.

The move was due to a financial state of emergency and was only supposed to be temporary, while a new supply line was being made to Lake Heron.

Since then the residents haven’t been able to receive clean water. State officials tried to reassure the residents that the water supply is clean and they have nothing to worry about.

Nevertheless, further investigations show that Flint contains high levels of iron and lead.  Many residents of Flint have suffered from rashes and hair loss, while others are at high risk of developing  permanent brain damage due to the high levels of lead they consumed from drinking the tainted the water. Several families have filed class action lawsuits due to them suffering from medical conditions after the switch was made.

Celebrities and public officials have voiced their outrage of the condition of Flint, Michigan and have personally delivered cases of fresh bottled water for the residents to be able to drink and bathe from.

We’ve had a city in the United States of America where the population, which is poor in many ways and majority African- American has been drinking and bathing in lead-contaminated water…. And the governor of that state acted as though he didn’t really care.” Said by Hilary Clinton.

Synder, said he is sympathetic towards the residents of his state and is working on fixing the water supply.

I think he is a liar and have more excuses than a person on death row.

At the end of the day, Synder knew that switching the water supply will take roughly over two years. There has been prior evidence shown of the lead contamination in Flint’s water supply. None of this information was told to the residents of the state. Furthermore, a decision like this should not have been made without having a healthy substitute of clean water to supply to the residents.

I’m sure, Synder and his family is drinking and bathing in clean water. I find it interesting that no one in his household or camp, including himself have suffered in any complications from the water.

This reminds me of the Hinkley groundwater contamination case where the majority of the residents of Hinkley, California suffered from severe medical conditions due to the extreme pollution in their water.
